Staging Connections brought a touch of Hollywood to Adelaide to celebrate the official opening of the The Crowne Plaza Adelaide

Staging Connections Adelaide lit up the Crowne Plaza Adelaide with LED lighting to highlight the newly built ballroom, along with moving wash lights to highlight the foyer and entrance way.

Skytrackers were used outside of the hotel in the adjacent parklands to fill the sky with light and bring focus to the hotel from the whole city. Atmosphere also helped in highlighting the ballroom with its décor dressings and lanterns.

The Challenges:

Although small the event had a number of challenges. New buildings have their challenges with new staff and their knowledge of the building’s infrastructure. We required a number of site inspections along with the hotel’s engineering department to “discover” what the building was capable of and how we could adapt the show into those capabilities.

All exterior power needed planning. Foyer wash light power needed to be fed from the hotel’s plant rooms through car parks and down numerous levels of the hotel.  The sky trackers needed a full 32 Amp 3 phase to itself.  As this was to be placed a considerable distance from the hotel the Adelaide City Council became involved to supply a suitable power source in the centre of their parklands.

The sky tracker had the potential to interfere with flight paths, luckily the hotel is located on the opposite side of the CBD falling just outside the airport’s no go zone for high powered lighting.

The Delivery:

The delivery was quite easy, as this was the hotel’s first own event, they were able to block out the spaces required for the event, this gave Staging Connections the ability to make sure that the event was setup to the hotel’s expectations. This time also gave us the opportunity to demo some different looks to the hotel’s management to make sure that they were completely happy with their highlighted hotel.

The Outcome:

During the first moments of the last setup day, there was a huge hype about the event, as the skytracking lights hadn’t been seen in Adelaide for some 20 years. Numerous key people from the events scene had heard about the sky lights along with many technicians from different AV companies around Adelaide. All were keen to see how the lights would fair.

The skylight produced four bright shafts of moving light that could be seen all over the city including Adelaide Airport, Hallett Cove and the Adelaide Hills.

Staging Connections team of skilled event services team managed all of the requirements for the red carpet opening including moving lights at the entrance and foyer of hotel and lighting and styling to set the atmosphere in the Hindmarsh Ballroom on the 15th floor.

According to Staging Connections SA/NT General Manager, Ashley Gabriel, Staging Connections is the Crowne Plaza Adelaide’s partner via a Preferred Supplier Agreement.

“Along with InterContinental Adelaide, we’re proud to continue our strong relationship with IHG which extends to the landmark, Crowne Plaza hotel.  Our team is very excited to be working in such an amazingly beautiful environment which is fitted with the very latest audiovisual technology,” he said.
