As the demand for the improved environmental performance of events and services continues to increase, Australia’s event professionals have the unique opportunity to add value to their careers with a short workshop titled Improving Environmental Performance for Your Events, held in Sydney this month from 28 – 29 July.
Taught by the internationally renowned Australian Centre for Event Management (ACEM) based at the University of Technology in Sydney (UTS), this short two-day workshop provides globally recognised qualifications which are highly regarded amongst prospective employers and industry leaders in government, corporate and not-for-profit organisations.
“Sustainability is a major challenge facing the Australian events industry and the demand for environmentally sustainable products and services has never been greater. Australia’s event professionals need to understand the latest eco-friendly strategies and products on offer, not only to match increasing client demand, but also in line with the incredible responsiveness of the public to sustainable events,” said Robert Harris, ACEM Director
Sustainability expert and Director of leading Australian consultancy Sustainability Systems and Services, Cameron Little, will guide students in this specialised workshop and share his experiences from almost twenty years in the environment and event sectors.
Little has tailored effective sustainability systems for high profile events such as Peats Ridge Festival, V Festival and World Skills Australia, many of which have won environmental awards for their achievements, and he also provides coaching for organisations seeking to become sustainability leaders within their industry.
“From weighing up the environmental implications when selecting event venues, to managing waste and recyclable programs, water conservation and energy efficiency at your event, this workshop will provide invaluable experience for event managers, exhibition organisers, government employees and venue managers looking to establish or improve sustainability systems for their events,” said Harris.
The workshop program will provide valuable decision-making frameworks for event managers from the full spectrum of experience from beginner to advanced. All participants will have the opportunity to work with others to develop the beginnings of policies and systems for their own event/organisation.
This two-day workshop will also provide detailed training on new technology available to measure the carbon impact of events, including the new ACEM Carbon Calculator, a free service launched last year in conjunction with the Carbon Reduction Institute, tailored specifically to the needs of event producers and organisers.
“Through initiatives like the ACEM Carbon Calculator and our short workshops helping improving environmental outcomes for events, we are hoping an increased number of event managers young and old take positive action to reduce the carbon footprint of the projects they’re running,” said Harris.
The ACEM workshop Improving Environmental Performance for your Events will be held on Wednesday 28th July and Thursday 29th July, between 9am and 5pm, at the Graduate School of Business, UTS Haymarket Campus. The course fee of $1,150 is GST free and discounted by 10% if two or more staff attend the program from a single organisation.
