Mark Nadler and David Campbell
Last week I was in Adelaide and took the opportunity to catch a show at the Adelaide Cabaret Festival. That show was Cabaret Whore, a one woman show featuring Sarah-Louise Young – a very funny and clever performance.
Following that show I got to the Festival Bar to catch the final appearance of Mark Nadler – described as “The lightning fast song and shtick man”. Mark had been appearing at the Piano Bar for the previous two weeks and had built up quite a following with hit irreverent wit and outstanding musicianship.
His last one hour show went for two hours and featured many the featured acts in the festival including – Hugh Sheridan, Sarah-Louise Young, Caroline O’Connor, Alex Rathgeber, Mitchell Butel, Elizabeth Cousemacker, Trevor Ashley and Frisky & Mannish.
And that is what makes a festival a Festival!
To close the show Nadler was joined by the festival artistic director, David Campbell in his only performance at the Festival.
PS for someone like me who spent so much of the 70s and 80s going to see pub bands I was struck by how much Campbell looks like his dad did back then (albeit without the vodka bottle on stage).
